|Agency:||Federal Trade Commission|
|Rule:||16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures|
Comments:There should be no advertising directly associated with the request for a free annual report either before, during and after. The agencies should be able ask those requesting reports if they wish to receive additional information on services for a fee that the specific agencies offer. This should only be done by web after the fact, for instance if yes a new page with information appears that the individual requested. There should be no connection to using information provided by the individual making the free request. Currently it is not completely clear that the free report system is even the official site until one reads with great caution all the web pages on ftc site and the related free site. Even then one is not sure one is clearly on a safe site to use because it appears as a com or commercial web site just as any other freecreditreport.com or any of the myriad of others.
