Health Care Competition and Consumer Issues – Comment, Project No. P083901 September 30, 2008 Federal Trade Commission Office of the Secretary Room H-135 (Annex F) 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20580 Re: Emerging Health Care Competition and Consumer Issues – Comment, Project No. P083901 Dear Federal Trade Commission: America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) appreciates the opportunity to submit comments on the important issue of Competition Among Health Care Providers Based on Quality Information. AHIP is the national association representing nearly 1,300 health insurance plans providing coverage to more than 200 million Americans. Our members offer a broad range of products in the commercial marketplace including health, long-term care, dental, vision, disability, and supplemental coverage. Our members also have a strong track record of participation in Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, and other public programs. AHIP believes that the health care industry needs to continue its progress towards an overall system that recognizes and promotes high quality performance among physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers through incentives and other means. We appreciate your focus on this important topic and would be glad to provide further information or assistance to the FTC as it continues its work in this area. Please contact me at (202) 778-8464 or skanwit@ahip.org if you have any questions. Sincerely, Stephanie W. Kanwit
